DETERMINATION OF VITAMIN E CONTENT IN FOODSTUFFS BY HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHYarticle

A simple and highly sensitive method for the determination of fat-soluble vitamin E in foodstuffs by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography was developed. The separation was performed on a silica-based MOS (С18, 200 x 2.1 mm, 5 µm particle size) column at 40°С with a gradient elution of mobile phase consisting of water (solvent A), acetonitrile (solvent B) and methanol. The separation was achieved within 32 min with a flow rate of 0,4 ml/min and the detection was performed at ultraviolet (UV) and fluorescent detectors. Sensitive for fluorescent detector is higher than for UV. The sample preparation involved a saponification of fats, extraction of vitamins, concentration in a rotary evaporator and dissolving in methanol. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed method is simple, sensitive and reliable for the determination of vitamin E in foodstuffs, despite the presence of the particularly complex matrix.
