ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF INCREASING OF A CHROMATOGRAPHIC COLUMN EFFICIENCY BY SATURATION OF THE CARRIER GAS BY THE VAPOURS OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS - article
For the purpose of raising activity of common carrier gas (nitrogen) which is used in practice of gas chromatography, its saturation with vapours of organic compounds of three homologous series: monoatomic alcohols of normal structure, saturated hydrocarbons of normal structure and aromatic hydrocarbons has been accomplished.
It has been discovered that the most active of these additions are the vapours of propanol, octane and toluene. In the processes of chromatographic separation they carry out not only role of an eluent, but also the one of displacers contributing formation of narrow and symmetrical elution curves and in such a way increasing a performance of chromatographic columns. Application of such organic additions allows the separation of these mixtures of the compounds which can't be separated in the conditions of our experiment through application of the common carrier-gas-nitrogen.
