THE EFFECT OF SMALL SUBSTITUTIONS OF CATIONS NA+ BY K+ IN Y-TYPE ZEOLITESarticle

We have described a little-known phenomenon called the Effect of Small Cations Substitutions on the base of chromatographical investigation of samples of zeolite NaY modified by a various amount of exchanged cations K+ in the range from 0 till 100%. On these zeolite modifications in chromatographic columns we have separated the model gas mixes consisting of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons С1-С4 and also O2, N2 and CO. On the background of gradual change of the volumes of chromatographic retention and thermodynamic parameters of these gases adsorption, depending on the increase of the number of exchange cations K+, we have discovered an anomal growth of these parameters for retention of the components O2, CH4 and C2H6 on the sample 0,1 KNaY with 10% of cations Na+ exchanged by K+.This phenomenon is called the Effect of Small Substitutions of Cations. It has been shown the influence of the temperature of the zeolite column on the values of specific retention volumes of gases and the width of their chromatographic zones.
