DETERMINATION OF FUSEL OILS IN THE ETHYL ALCOHOL BY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY AND PHOTOMETRY - article

The determinations of the characteristic fusel oils in the rectified ethyl alcohol by photometry and gas chromatography were made. The ways for the separation and determination of difficult pairs propan-2-ol / ethanol and propan-1-ol / ethyl butyrate were shown. The sensitivity of Komarowsky reaction to the individual fusel oils was proved by the "added – found" method. It was shown that photometric method does not allow to determine propan-2-ol and propan-1-ol by the standard procedures accurately. The performance of gas chromatographic determination of these admixtures was satisfactory.
