THE KEY FEATURES OF THE LECO® (USA) SERIAL SYSTEMS GC-TOFMS,  GCXGC-TOFMS, ICP-TOFMS  AND  LC-TOFMS IN THE VIEW  OF PRESENT-DAY ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS article

The arising global environmental problems determine need in principally new analytical methods combined speed with high resolution, processing of huge amounts of data with quick response etc. To meet such needs LECO firm (USA) has built set of technologically advanced rapid instruments based on mass-spectrometric detection.

LECO GC TOFMS Pegasus® III acquisition rate is up to 500 full mass (range 0 to 1000 u) spectra per second which is required for processing very narrow peaks (less then 1s) generated by up-to-date fast GC. It is especially required by modern orthogonal 2D GC. Option GCxGC TOFMS named Pegasus 4D is able totally to resolve complex natural mixtures (petroleum products, perfumery, flavors and fragrances, pesticides residuals, pyrolysis products etc.) of hundreds to tens of thousands components with their identification in less then one hour. Spectral continuity of TOF mass-spectra makes it possible to develop unique algorithm of effective deconvolution of highly complex coelutions of GC peaks.

Unique™ is LC-TOFMS instrument employing either ESI or APCI ionization interface. The ions are pulsed at a frequency of 5 000 Hz into the flight tube. Pulses then integrated up to 100 spectra/second across the entire mass range    (up to m/z 6 000). Unique is a high resolution MS instrument (mass resolution  >  2 000) with accurate mass measurement (5 ppm mass accuracy).  Its coupling with fast liquid chromatography can be a useful tool for fast screening of target or unknown compounds in drug, doping, food environmental analysis etc.

ICP TOFMS Renaissance® is designed for elemental composition and isotopic ratio measurement in wide range of materials and concentrations, beginning from traces and sub-traces (ppb–ppt). TOFMS of original axial design lets to achieve level of 30,000 ‘single’ spectra/second. Thus it combines precision with high speed and therefore is able to solve very fine tasks. The system can be interfaced with wide range of devices.
